Homestead, Florida, is a city in south Miami-Dade, about 26 miles southwest of Miami and the second-oldest city in the county after Miami. It lies between Everglades National Park to the west and Biscayne National Park to the east, immediately north and east of Florida City, on the road to the Florida Keys. It is both a Miami suburb and a major farming area, home to Homestead Air Reserve Base and the Homestead-Miami Speedway, and it bore the brunt of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Its historic downtown is on Krome Avenue.
