Plantation is a city in central Broward County, bordered by Sunrise to the north and west, Davie to the south, Fort Lauderdale to the east and Lauderhill to the northeast. Its founder, Frederick C. Peters, set out to build a farming-based, rural alternative to suburban Dade County, and it was incorporated in 1953. Today it is a settled suburb with big parks such as Plantation Central Park, the Broward Mall, which opened in 1978 on former cow pasture, and Plantation Walk, which replaced the old Fashion Mall.
Rentals here are suburban communities spread across the city rather than gathered in one downtown, most with a resort-style pool and a fitness center. The Rise at Plantation Walk is part of the Plantation Walk development on University Drive, and residents get discounts at its shops. Shalimar at Plantation East, newly finished in the Midtown Plantation district, and the brand-new PIXL at Plantation, with a nature trail and a beach-entry wading pool, are both in lease-up. AMLI Park West on Peters Road, close to Florida's Turnpike and I-595, offers leases from about seven months.
